This was the first semester model I did a George Brown College in my Architectural Technology Program. The model was of a corner of couch house design and there are three parts to the project. The first being to reproduce the drawings by hand, while finding and fixing any errors. Second being to build the model in 1/2″ = 1′ scale, we had to choose from 2 different corners to build the model from. The third part was to complete 3 details and 2 kitchen and bath designs by hand. From my experience it was best to complete the drawings then build the model because the drawings, especially the details, were essential to understanding the building. This is a unique model because it is built to show the structural elements of the building with the use of 1/2″ scaled 2″ by 4″, 6″, 8″, and 10″ balsa wood. Wood and super glue were used to adhere the items together, ziplock bags were used for vapor barrier, sand paper as shingles, foam as the dirt, poppy seeds as 3/4″ granular stone, tin foil as gusset plates, and wax paper as the sill gasket.
